Bernice Walker Benyon was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on November 27, 1923. She was the first born to the union of Daisy and Harold (Hailey) Walker. Bernice departed this life on Monday, July 15, 2019.
Bernice grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from Woodward High School. She married George Benyon (deceased) and they were blessed with two sons, Joseph and Teddy.
Bernice was a faithful member of Corinthian Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she served as an usher. She also had an amazing passion for the culinary arts, and held the role of Kitchen Manager, at Corinthian. To this day, members of Corinthian talk about the many meals she prepared with love. Throughout the years, she was known for catering a host of events around the Cincinnati area. And for 50 plus years, Bernice was a member of the Fair Ladies Social Club, where she developed many lifelong friendships. She was very mobile and remained active with various events, and even continued driving until the age of 92.
She was an extremely diligent and loyal woman who made sure she gave often to those around her. For this, she lived a very blessed life.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her two sons, Joseph L. Walker (Deborah Alma) and Teddy D. Walker (Cynthia A.); grandchildren, Jovi S. Walker-Brown, Lakesha N. Walker, Teddy D. Walker II, Merika E. Walker and JoVonne S. Walker. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Tuesday, July 23, 2019, at the Corinthian Baptist Church - Tennessee Ave., 1920 Tennessee Avenue, Cincinnati (45229). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
