Jesse Sherman Obituary

Jesse Charles Sherman Jr. was born on January 24, 1933 in Cincinnati, OH to the late Donna and Jesse Charles Sherman Sr. He departed this life on June 1, 2020.

After the passing of Jesse’s mother Donna, his father, Jesse Sr. met and married Lucinda “Cindy” Ecpy. Together Cindy and Jesse Sr. raised Jesse and his siblings.

Jesse attended Lockland Wayne High School for three years and decided to make the ultimate sacrifice at the age of 17 and enlisted in the United States Army.  During his military career Jesse served in many different capacities from being a cook to driving trucks. Jesse served in two military conflicts; the Korean War and the Gulf War also known as Desert Storm/Desert Shield. After completing twenty years of active service Jesse retired from the U.S. Army with the following awards; Army Service Ribbon, SouthWest Asia Service Medal, National Defense Service, Medal w/Bronze Star, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Army, Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Driver and Mechanic Badge.

Jesse also retired from Cummins Engine Company as a Security Guard. Soon after retirement, Jesse decided he wanted to move back home to be closer to family.

Jesse knew Jesus at a young age and expressed openly knowing him as his savior.  Later in life Jesse rededicated himself to Jesus Christ again.

Jesse enjoyed playing Bid Whist, Black Jack, Poker, Spades, and Tonk with his family. Jesse was best known for giving you that look when he was winning thinking you should have never sat down today. Jesse also enjoyed listening to jazz, dancing, bowling, sports, traveling and cooking ribs which were never duplicated.

Jesse knew no strangers in his lifetime as he enjoyed sitting on his porch accompanied by his friend Louise waving to everyone that passed by. He liked giving the neighborhood children opportunities to make money by asking them to complete chores for him. The most important lesson he instilled in the children was the code he lived by, “Work hard no matter what it is and you will reap the rewards”.

In addition to his parents Jesse Sr and Donna Sherman, Jesse was also preceded in death by his children Charles (Skeeter) Sherman, Victor C. Sherman, Elaine (Sherman) Blair.  In addition, his siblings and their spouses, Donald Sherman Sr. Eula Kemper (Duey), William Ronald Sherman Sr. (Patricia), and  brother-in-law Willis”Juice” Ellison.

Jesse leaves to cherish his memory and his legacy, his children; Kathy Pulliam (Bloomington IL) Jesse T. Sherman (Yvette), Dona Watkins (Roger), Loucindy “LuLu” Pruitt (South Bend IN), Jessica Chambers, Cedric Burroughs Sr. (Raven), Jerome C. Sherman (Stacy, Ellicott City, MD), Pedro J Sherman (Indianapolis IN), Minerva A Sherman (John, Ft.Wayne IN); brother, Mark Sherman (Lendia, Augusta GA); sisters, Elanda M Sherman, Nellie May Ellison, Elaine Shumpert, Aunt Anna “Tip” Smith and a multitude of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
