Donald Ray Ulmer, Sr.

Donald Ray Ulmer, Sr was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 23, 1955 to the union of Lawrence and Henrietta (Brown) Ulmer. He was number six of seven children. Donald attended Cincinnati Public Schools and graduated from Taft High School where he met his high school sweetheart Carolyn (Bailey). The two were joined in holy matrimony on April 20, 1974.

From this union are four children: Donna (Sean) Davis, Natasha (Thomas) Hodge, Donte Ulmer, Donald Ulmer, Jr, and one step-daughter Nia (Randall) Royal.

After high school, Donald worked a few jobs before settling in for thirty plus years as a cook with Jewish Hospital on Burnet Avenue. He retired from Jewish Hospital, but this did not last long as he went back to work at what was then changed to University Hospital until his health could no longer keep up with the demands of working.

Donald had a real passion for cooking and loved to spend his time cooking and watching Kung Fu movies. He always brought a smile to anyone that crossed his path.

"Don Ray" as he was affectionately called by family and close friends, lived and worked in Walnut Hills for most of his adult life where he never met a stranger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Henrietta; two sisters, Diana and Beverly; a niece and a nephew.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his spouse, his dear children, seventeen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three sisters Annie Lois, Nancy and Linda, one brother Zamuni, two special nieces Lataska Ulmer and Nijala Robbins, a host of nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.

Visitation is from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, on  Friday, January 24, 2020, at the Walker- McMILLAN STREET CHAPEL, 1025 E. McMillan Street , Cincinnati  (45206).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 pm.
